He died whilst drive Motion 1, while attempting to set the world land speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. A graduate of what is now Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, he had previously set two national records with race cars he had built in a shop he owned in Sacramento called B&N Automotive shop.
