Overview:
Unique to 1938, Ford trucks used a cable system in place of the standard rod actuated system used in the previous 1935-1937 models. This system was again replaced in 1939 with the introduction of hydraulic brakes to the entire Ford line.
Below is an illustrated breakdown of parts followed by a parts list using the basic Ford part number. Specific parts varied by truck model with the cabovers (COE) using a few non-interchangable parts with the standard model pickup. In addition, express (one ton pickups), and one and a half ton trucks shared some, but not all, of the same standard parts. Notable exceptions would include, brake linings, backing plates, and cables.
