Beautiful Paint Job!
Be the envy of everyone at your Cruise-In!
This truly is one classic pickup. The hunter green paint job is excellent in my opinion. I'm selling this for a buddy of mine, so here's his description:
This truck was the present owner's Godfather's pickup. So the present owner not only as owned this pickup for over 25 years, he has also known of the truck for much longer than that. My buddy is a professional body and paint man and owns his own shop locally. So you know the paint and body work was done right--no short cuts!
The paint is the original shade of hunter green. It is Dupont paint in the singal stage from back when the "2000 System" had been introduced by Dupont. Only race glaze has been used on the truck to shine the finish up.
The truck has not been driven much in the last 5-6 years. The only reason that the owner is selling it now is because he no longer has the storage spot for it.
The truck runs very nice and quiet. Pull the choke, turn the key, and you're in business. Runs, shifts, and drives just like it should. It's quite an attention-getter!
It has nice stained wood in the box without the original type metal spacers that were often on these wood beds.
The truck had all new brakes 2 years ago, and they work very well. However, since installation they have not been adjusted and the front right brake drum is in need of some minor adjusting.
The speedo stopped working about 1000 miles ago, so the true mileage is unknown at this time. But he knows that it as not rolled over for sure.
The Chevy comes with a tailgate that is only in fair shape. The original tailgate was sent in for welding work, and the machine shop misplaced it. So this tailgate is not painted to match yet, and its condition is marginal. New reproduction gates are available starting at $250, so he would recommend going that route.
The truck is still on the 6 volt system, but the battery in the truck is a 12 volt. Voltage reducers bring the charge down to 6 volts so everything operates normally. The truck is a radio delete model, but an AM/FM Volkswagen radio has been installed under the dash to run off the 6 volts.
The gas guage is currently inoperable. The floors are good, and I see no evidence of patches there. New cab corners were installed when the car was painted. Minor rust on the fenders was repaired at that time as well. The tires are very nice steel belted radials with very low miles. The rims are aftermarket, but the original rims are included, and they were painted to match the truck at the time the body was painted. No original hubcaps.
Please only bid on this pickup if you have the money and plan on following through with the transaction. If you are unsure about it, come take a look at it and take it for a drive. Is this pickup a perfect Pebble Beach show car? No. Does it have imperfections? Yes. The driver's side front fender has a couple inch scratch from when the owner's daughter's bicycle swiped it years ago. And I'm sure that if you got out a magnifying glass you might be able to find another imperfection. I personally would grade the paint job a 9 out of 10. Yeah, it's pretty nice, I think. The interior is very basic and not too different from the way Chevrolet put it together over 60 years ago. It could use a door handle clip here and there, or a stitch or two on a small seam that has opened on the upholstery, but it is nothing that a little TLC couldn't solve. The dash and steering wheel and column and all were resprayed and look quite nice, I think.
Well, there you have it. And the pictures say it all. The current owner held on to this for over 25 years, and I think it's the kind of vehicle that one would call "a keeper." Let me know if you have questions, and if I can't figure it out I'll find out for you. Happy Motoring, and Enjoy the Auction!
