Victorian Hot Rod Show 2001
This year was notable for the lack of rods. With the numbers being made up of Corvettes, Panel Vans and Boats. It seems as though the average rodder either doesn't think that he can compete with the higher dollar newer "show" rods or prefers to have access to his orher car over the weekend of the show. It also takes a long time to prepare and detail a car for a show and many rodders seem to be balking at the investment in time and money for what is basically a nil return. There were plenty of rods out in the car park providing their own little show and this helped offset the $18 entry price.
I personally believe the problem is that there are too many rodders that believe their rides are not show worthy (when in fact they really are) and that there are not enough categories in the shows for "street" rods. It's also just a matter of numbers, with only so many new rods being built each year that usually get entered in the shows, verses all those rods that go to the rod runs and cruise nights that have been built over the years.
With this show being the Victorian State show we (rodders) need to support it, but maybe at a new venue or on a different date?
